Reed had the opportunity to perform research in the field of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) through the Flex program as a 2nd Year medical student at UBC. The focus of his research is on the pathogenesis of AMD and the role of immune cells and immune-mediators in the onset and progression of both wet- and dry-type AMD. Using immunohistochemical staining methods, Reed is working on characterizing a specific subset of cells and immune markers in various tissue models for the study of AMD.
